PartnerRe Amsterdam

PartnerRe is an international reinsurance company that helps insurance firms reduce earnings volatility, strengthen their capital position and grow their business. In 2013 the company commissioned Serge Schoemaker Architects to design the interior of the office for its Dutch subsidiary, located on the fifth floor of the Symphony complex on Amsterdam’s Zuidas business district.

The client requested an open office environment with a separate meeting room and several private offices. Flexibility was an important requirement, allowing the workspace to adapt to the company’s future growth. For this project Serge Schoemaker Architects acted both as designer and contractor, delivering the project as a turn-key office interior within the scheduled timeframe.

The spatial concept consists of three strategically positioned volumes, each clad in a different material. At the heart of the office is a glass volume containing an acoustically enclosed meeting room. A teak-clad volume accommodates the private offices, while a white lacquered volume houses the storage and archive cabinets.

Thanks to the transparency of the central meeting room, the office retains a sense of openness and daylight can penetrate deep into the interior. The glass box divides the open workspace into three zones: a shared coffee and lunch area and two zones with flexible workstations.

All furniture was specially designed and custom-made for the project. The work desks are made of black MDF, while the other tables and cabinets are crafted from dark-stained solid oak. The use of high-quality materials and refined craftsmanship gives the office a professional atmosphere that reflects the established character of the company while conveying openness and trust.
